- Background
- This car was a daily driver for someone who was looking to do some tuning. The car has 158k miles and he bought a timing belt, water pump kit but had yet to install it. While driving the car the timing belt broke on him at 80 mph on the freeway. This bent the valves in the head, He had the car towed to his house to do some reflection on what to do next. He needed something reliable or lost interest in his Eclipse.
Fast forwarder seven years and he needed the Eclipse moved off of the property. I ended up with the car in my garage to my wife's chagrin.
Not exactly knowing but suspecting bent valves in the head I went to work pulling the head to verify damage. Sure enough the intake valves in cylinder two and the exhaust valves in cylinder three were bent. Now decisions had to be made. Scrap the Eclipse, replace the valve and rebuild the head myself or have a professional take care of it.
Not so sure if anything else was wrong with the head I took doing the rebuild myself off of the table.
I ordered a head from RAMS Cylinder Heads. I purchased a Felpro gasket set and Head bolts, thermostat, belts, hoses, oil and antifreeze. I am in the process of replacing the head now.
